Fees, treatment time and possible risks

These figures are general guides. All amounts include tax. The treatments below are self-pay and are not covered by Japanese public health insurance. We will provide a written estimate after your examination.

Implants and All-on-4

Treatment
A dental implant is placed in the jawbone and restored with an abutment and crown. All-on-4 uses implants to support a fixed full-arch restoration.
Fees
A standard single-tooth combination starts from about ¥495,000. All-on-4 is ¥3,300,000 per arch. If needed, a temporary tooth is ¥11,000 or ¥22,000; GBR starts from ¥77,000, a socket lift is ¥198,000 and a sinus lift is ¥275,000.
Time and visits
Treatment usually takes several months and requires multiple visits. Bone grafting or healing conditions may increase the time and number of appointments.
Possible risks and side effects
Possible risks include swelling, pain, bleeding, infection, injury to nearby nerves or blood vessels, and failure of the implant to integrate or remain stable. Smoking, diabetes and bone conditions may affect suitability. Ongoing home care and maintenance are required.

Adult orthodontics

Treatment
Teeth are moved with clear aligners, braces or a combination selected after orthodontic examination and diagnosis.
Fees
For clear aligners, a standard total example is ¥423,500–¥1,490,500, including the package, examination, panoramic X-ray, CT, 12–36 monthly checks and an upper/lower retainer set. For full-arch braces, the same 1–3 year assumption gives ¥992,200–¥1,491,600, including diagnosis, imaging and 12–36 adjustments. If needed, an extraction is ¥6,600 or ¥16,500, an additional aligner series is ¥110,000, an attachment/IPR procedure is ¥5,500 and an anchorage screw is ¥110,000.
Time and visits
A common treatment period is approximately one to three years, with follow-up around once a month. The schedule differs with the bite, appliance and treatment response.
Possible risks and side effects
Pain, discomfort and temporary speech changes may occur. Inadequate cleaning can increase the risk of decay or gum disease. Root resorption, gum recession and relapse are possible. Clear aligners must be worn for the prescribed time, and retainers are needed after tooth movement.

Ceramic crowns and veneers

Treatment
Ceramic crowns restore a prepared tooth. Composite or ceramic veneers reshape the visible surface of selected front teeth. Orthodontics or another restoration may be more suitable in some cases.
Fees
Ceramic crowns are ¥134,200–¥167,200 per tooth including the ¥2,200 preparation/set fee; a temporary tooth is ¥5,500 when required. Composite veneers start from ¥93,500 and laminate veneers from ¥137,500 per tooth, including the respective procedure fee.
Time and visits
Ceramic crowns commonly require two to three visits per tooth. Veneers commonly require one to three visits, depending on the method and number of teeth.
Possible risks and side effects
Healthy tooth structure may need to be reduced. Sensitivity can occur after treatment. Restorations may chip, fracture or detach, particularly with strong impact, grinding or clenching. Maintenance and bite protection may be advised.

Professional whitening

Treatment
Office whitening applies a peroxide-based whitening agent at the clinic. Take-home whitening uses custom trays and gel at home. Whitening changes the colour of natural teeth; crowns, veneers and fillings do not whiten.
Fees
Office whitening is ¥38,500 for one set, including one enamel-care cleaning. A take-home starter set is ¥38,500 and includes upper and lower trays with two gel syringes. Fees include tax and are self-pay. Examination or treatment needed before whitening is quoted separately.
Time and visits
For a new patient, the first visit is an oral examination and office whitening begins from the second visit. One office set includes two consecutive light applications and takes about 90 minutes at one treatment visit. Take-home whitening is generally used for about two weeks to one month.
Possible risks and side effects
Teeth may feel temporarily sensitive during or after whitening. The degree and duration of colour change vary, and colour can gradually return. Decay, gum disease or sensitivity may need treatment first. Whitening may not be suitable during pregnancy or breastfeeding, for people with acatalasemia, or for some allergies or tooth conditions.

Frequently asked questions

Before you book

Can I discuss complex dental treatment in English?

Yes. You can use the online booking form in Japanese, or message us on LINE in English if you need help choosing a service. We will confirm the dentist and appointment details before your visit.

Does Dr. Murai carry out every implant or ceramic treatment?

No. Dr. Murai contributes to restorative planning for selected implant and ceramic cases. Another dentist may perform the examination, surgery or restorative procedure. We will explain who will be involved before treatment begins.

Can I receive a final plan or price from photographs alone?

Photographs help us understand your concern, but a final diagnosis, treatment period and written estimate require an in-person examination and any necessary X-rays, CT imaging or digital scans.

Do you treat gum disease or tooth pain before private treatment?

Yes. Active gum disease, decay or infection may need to be treated before implants, orthodontics or restorative care. This protects the foundation of the planned treatment and may include insured or self-pay options depending on the diagnosis.

Is treatment covered by Japanese health insurance?

Implants, All-on-4, adult orthodontics, ceramic restorations, veneers and whitening are generally self-pay care. General dental and periodontal treatment may be covered when the diagnosis and your insurance eligibility meet Japanese health-insurance requirements.

Can I arrange whitening during a limited stay in Japan?

Please send us your available dates before booking. New patients have an oral examination first, and office whitening begins from the second visit. One office set takes about 90 minutes once treatment begins. Take-home whitening usually continues for about two weeks to one month.
